Nude Drinking from a Bowl

Signed ā€œV. Seifertā€
Gilt bronze on marble base

Graceful yet commanding, Nude Drinking from a Bowl stands among Victor Heinrich Seifert’s most compelling Art Nouveau figural compositions. Created at the height of the sculptor’s maturity, the work captures a female nude as she drinks from a bowl. Her bowed head and gently raised arms draw the viewer inward, while the gilt bronze surface accentuates the figure’s fluid contours. The masterpiece is set upon its dark marble base.

Victor Heinrich Seifert was a highly accomplished sculptor active in Germany during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Trained under noted artists, including d’E. Herter, Ludwig Manzel and Peter Breuer, Seifert developed a refined sculptural language rooted in academic tradition yet attuned to the lyrical sensibilities of the period. His figural bronzes were especially admired for their sensitivity and technical finesse, and his works are represented in important German collections.
