This exceptional two-handled serving bowl by Tiffany & Co. commemorates the marriage of Elizabeth Beirne McFarland and Randolph Barksdale, a prominent Virginia family, on May 26, 1858. The bowl’s other side is inscribed with “1907 M. T. H.” and “1939 J. T. H.,” marking the family's continued legacy which was added as the generations flourished. These sentimental markings are encircled by delicate scrollwork and acanthus leaf motifs.

The underside is marked Tiffany & Co., English Sterling, in a style associated with John Chandler Moore, who worked exclusively for Tiffany after 1851 and showcased his work at the Great Exhibition that same year. This mark was used between 1854 and 1869, confirming the production date displayed with the message. This serving bowl not only represents the Barksdale family's heritage and achievements but also exemplifies the distinguished craftsmanship of Tiffany & Co.
